The Sunday Reset
Stop Planning in Your Head
Quick question before we get into this week's reset.
When was the last time you finished a week and actually knew, clearly and specifically, how much progress you made toward your biggest goal?
Not a feeling. Not a guess. Actual visibility.
Most people cannot answer that. And that is not a discipline problem. It is a planning problem.
This week I want to fix that. Let's go.
Quote of the week
A goal without a plan is just a wish.
Oyinkansola's reflection
A wish has no deadline, no structure, and no way to measure whether you are getting closer. A plan has all three. The difference between people who achieve their yearly goals and people who just carry them forward into the next year is not talent or time. It is whether they broke the goal into something they could actually act on this week.
Here is the planning mistake most ambitious people make.
They set a big yearly goal in January. Then they try to jump straight from that yearly goal to today's to-do list. And the gap between those two things is so enormous that most days they do not even know where to start.
The fix is planning in layers.
Your yearly goal tells you where you are going. Your quarterly plan tells you what phase you are in. Your monthly plan tells you what milestone you are working toward right now. Your weekly plan tells you what specifically needs to happen this week to stay on track. And your daily tasks are simply the weekly plan broken into single actions.
Every layer feeds the next one. Nothing is random. Nothing is disconnected.
The most useful moment in that system is the end of the week, when you can see whether this week's actions actually served the month, the quarter, and the year.
Action
Before Monday starts, look at your goal for this month. Then ask: what is the one thing that must happen this week for me to be on track by the end of the month? That answer is your weekly priority. Everything else is secondary.
Your weekly recap
Before you plan ahead, four questions about the week you just finished:
- Did you know at the start of last week what your top priority was, or did you figure it out as you went?
- How much of what you did last week connected directly to your biggest goal?
- What slipped through the week that you did not plan for?
- If you had to give last week a score out of 10 for progress toward your yearly goal, what would it be and why?
Something to carry into this week
Here is the truth about planning that nobody says out loud.
The plan is not the point.
The plan is just the map. The point is the journey. The point is showing up every day and doing the next small thing that moves you forward, even when the plan changes, even when life interrupts, even when Wednesday happens and everything falls apart.
The plan will change. Life is not a straight line. Progress is not linear. Some weeks you will execute perfectly. Most weeks you will not.
But the people who look at the gap between what they planned and what they actually did, and use that gap as information instead of shame, are the ones who get better every single week.
That is the whole philosophy.
Not perfection. Not a flawless week.
Just honest visibility. And one more week of trying.
Get 1% better.
